Hillingdon London Borough – Installation of Wireless Infrastructure
Background
Being the home of Heathrow Airport, Hillingdon is London’s gateway to the world. This is the second largest London borough covering 45 square miles.
Challenge
The existing CCTV system in the town centre was linked back to the control room via rented fibre with a connection that was analog. An update from analog to digital was required alongside new CCTV systems of improved high definition quality.
Solution
DSSL Group designed a new wireless solution which allowed a large decrease in annual rented fibre costs, saving the council an estimated £50,000 a year.
We then created a connection of over 850 cameras back to the Hillingdon control room including feeds from both housing and corporate sites. The newly installed network consists of Siku, Infinet, and Ubiquiti wireless links all secured by Comnet managed switches.
In order to provide a birds-eye view of selected housing estates, DSSL installed rooftop PTZ and monitoring cameras alongside video analytic alerts of rooftop access points which helps to secure both rooftops and the equipment present.
