Hillingdon Control Room – Major CCTV Upgrade

Background

Being the home of Heathrow Airport, Hillingdon is London’s gateway to the world. This is the second largest London borough covering 45 square miles.

Challenge

The borough was experiencing many operational issues with its existing town centre CCTV systems. In addition, its corporate buildings and housing estates were in need of full upgrades in order to bring systems in line with current GDPR guidelines. DSSL were approached to project plan and design a system to offer HD images, all of which can be viewed from a modernised control room.

Solution

Firstly, DSSL Group upgraded the Hillingdon control room using Intech Solutions furniture expertise. The control room now consists of 13 43″ and 12 22″ public display monitors. Then using the existing fibre were required we designed a secure licensed radio solution consisting of 110 radios across 25 square miles.

Using Dahua CCTV systems, DSSL engineers installed cameras in all stand-alone sites which are viewable from the recently upgraded control room thanks to the DSSL Group supplied wireless network. Being a Dahua partner, DSSL Group has been able to supply affordable HD and 4K images to the sites throughout Hillingdon, with 3 years warranty on all equipment.

With the nature of the installation in mind, DSSL Group chose to upgrade the town centre with the Invictus PTZ camera from British manufacturer 360 Vision.We have installed 110 Invictus PTZ cameras across the borough which produce a night image that is second to none. Images from these cameras have already been used as vital evidence in court cases.

With the use of Genetec security centre, DSSL has delivered a user-friendly system that also allows for the addition of ANPR cameras and estate and corporate door entry systems.

We have loved being part of such a large project. The initial design and competition of all 850 cameras has been achieved by 4 teams of engineers over the space of 5 months.
